Question 11 · Identity of Jesus

Why is Jesus central to Christian theology?

Biblical Background

Jesus is the centerpiece of Scripture—promised in the Old Testament, revealed in the Gospels, proclaimed in Acts, explained in the Epistles, and glorified in Revelation. Christianity is Christ-centered because salvation, revelation, and redemption all flow from Him. The New Testament presents Jesus as the Word made flesh, the mediator between God and humanity, and the source of eternal life.

Historical Context

Early Christians recognized Jesus as the fulfillment of Israel’s story and the foundation of their faith. Creeds formed around His identity and work, shaping Christian doctrine for centuries.

Theological Meaning

Jesus is central because He reveals the Father, redeems humanity, defeats sin and death, and inaugurates the Kingdom of God. Without Jesus, there is no gospel, no salvation, and no Christian faith. Every major Christian doctrine—Trinity, salvation, incarnation, atonement—depends on who He is and what He has done.
