Question 196 · Trinity

Why is Jesus’ humanity important for Trinitarian theology?

Biblical Background

Jesus becomes fully human through the incarnation, experiencing weakness, temptation, suffering, and death (Hebrews 2:14–18). He remains divine while assuming human nature.

Historical Context

The early church insisted on Jesus’ full humanity to preserve the truth that God truly entered human existence. Denying His humanity undermines salvation and the Trinity.

Theological Meaning

Jesus’ humanity allows Him to mediate between humans and God. The eternal Son takes on human flesh without ceasing to be divine, revealing the relational love of the Trinity. His humanity also shows how Father, Son, and Spirit cooperate in the work of redemption—Father sends, Son redeems, Spirit applies.
